Learn general astrology and Iksha Balan’s own R1/R2/R3 analysis. His NKV-inspired approach adds a strong focus on transits over natal planets, name-based Jeeva Lagna, cowrie-shell Prasannam and traditional remedies. Mahadasha periods receive less emphasis.
General astrology remains a broad part of the teaching: planets, houses, house lords, strength, connections and practical questions. Iksha Balan’s R1/R2/R3 findings belong to this general analysis, rather than to NKV.
His NKV-inspired approach emphasises Saturn and Jupiter transits over natal planets, name-based Jeeva Lagna and birth-time rectification, and cowrie-shell Prasannam for in-depth questions. Traditional remedies have a central role. He brings this inspiration together with his own further study and experience, giving less importance to Mahadasha periods.
Learn planets, houses, house lords and strength, including Iksha Balan’s own R1/R2/R3 analysis.
Study moving planets over natal planets, especially Saturn and Jupiter. Use Jeeva Lagna as a name-based reference alongside the wider astrology study.
Study cowrie-shell Prasannam for detailed questions, and the traditional reasoning behind planetary-colour ribbon cutting and temple-name associations.
Iksha Balan teaches through his expertise, original findings and practical experience. General astrology and his R1/R2/R3 analysis sit alongside NKV-inspired practices; teacher references acknowledge inspiration and do not imply teaching on a teacher’s behalf.
A search for name-based astrology led Iksha Balan to Dr. Nellai K. Vasanthan’s NKV system.
Iksha Balan’s questions about relying mainly on Mahadasha periods led him to explore other ways of reading a chart. An astrologer using names as ascendants drew his attention to name-based astrology.
That search brought him to Dr. Nellai K. Vasanthan’s NKV system. Its emphasis on transit influences gave him a framework for the questions he had been investigating.
He also studied traditional links between planets, names and temple associations, along with remedies such as coloured ribbons. Iksha Balan Astro brings that inspiration together with his own study and practice.
Personal experiences describe the development of the method; they are not promises of a particular result.

Study Iksha Balan’s R1/R2/R3 findings in general astrology: planets in houses, house lords and the karaka—the planet representing the question. This is his own analysis, separate from the NKV-inspired techniques.
Trace how a house’s themes are expressed through the house occupied by its lord. Study its distance from its own house to understand support, delay, diversion and completion within the framework.
Read house, sign, conjunction and aspect together. Examine the dispositor—the ruler of the sign a planet occupies—to understand the support available to that planet.
Study how moving planets contact planets in the birth chart. This NKV-inspired part of Iksha Balan’s learning focuses on specific planetary contacts to interpret the question, with less reliance on Mahadasha periods.
Give particular attention to Saturn and Jupiter transits over natal planets. Study their contacts and timing carefully, including Jupiter’s amplification and Saturn’s restriction, delay and discipline, in the context of the question.
Study the transiting Moon as a temporary focus of thought. Give separate attention to the moving ascendant lord, its house and strength when interpreting what is active for the person.
Explore Saturn’s transit through a natal planet’s nakshatra, or star division. Read these contacts alongside longer-term Jupiter and Saturn influences. Mahadasha periods are covered in general astrology but receive less emphasis in this approach.
Learn the NKV-inspired idea that strong planets are reflected in the meanings of a person’s name. Use Jeeva Lagna as a name-based reference, distinct from the usual birth-chart ascendant, and explore birth-time rectification when the recorded ascendant is uncertain.
Apply the same house–lord–karaka sequence to education, work, business, marriage and home questions. Practise bringing natal support and transit timing into one clear explanation.
Learn Sozhi Prasannam—reading cowrie shells—to explore detailed questions, with the query-led reading given priority over relying only on the natal chart. Study how to form the question, interpret the shell combinations and explain the reading.
Study ribbon cutting in planetary colours and a specific sequence, alongside temple visits chosen through planetary name meanings. These traditional remedies are intended to address adverse planetary influences. In Iksha Balan’s interpretation, Velleeshwarar connects Velli (silver/Venus) and Ishwarar (the Sun).
